The Patrol Division makes up the bulk of the department and is the front line in the prevention, detection, and crime solving in the City of Findlay. This division consists of uniformed patrol officers, which patrol the city in marked patrol vehicles. Under-cover officers are also utilized in unmarked patrol vehicles when deemed appropriate.

These officers are normally the first police personnel that the public comes into contact with when they need assistance. Patrol officers are responsible for responding to calls for service, such as traffic accidents and criminal complaints. These officers also investigate their own cases unless it is determined that the case is too time intensive. At that time the case will be forwarded to the Detective Division for assignment.

The Patrol Division operates on three separate 10 hour shifts:

  • Day Shift:           6:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Afternoon Shift:  2:00 PM - 12:00 AM
  • Midnight Shift:    9:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Each shift is commanded by two Sergeants who report to the Patrol Division Lieutenant.

Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Program

The lack of mental health crisis services across the U.S. has resulted in law enforcement officers serving as first responders to most crises. A Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program is an innovative, community-based approach to improve the outcomes of these encounters.  CIT improves communication, identifies mental health resources for those in crisis and ensures officer and community safety.

Proper CIT training for officers responding to calls can help them to recognize when individuals are suffering from a mental health crisis. Proper training is also essential when it comes to determining how to appropriately handle these situations, and can ultimately save lives.

In Hancock County, members of the Findlay Police Department are CIT trained and can be identified by a dark and light blue pin worn above their name plates.

The Hancock County CIT Training Program coordinates with NAMI of Hancock County for the CIT Officer of Year Award. If you would like to nominate an officer for the award, you may use the link below.
